Katrina Kaif was Anurag Kashyap’s first choice for Bombay Velvet

Katrina Kaif is undeniably one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood right now. This year, with two back-to-back hit releases — Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan and Jab Tak Hai Jaan with Shah Rukh Khan — she has further strengthened her position on the top. And now, another piece of news consolidates that fact.

Apparently, Katrina was the first choice for Anurag Kashyap’s dream project, Bombay Velvet. “Her screen presence is great and her demand in the industry is increasing by the day. Anurag was considering her for the project first,” reveals a source, adding that even though Katrina liked the project, she could not come on board due to date issues. The role is now being played by Anushka Sharma.

“Katrina has no time in 2013. She has two back-to-back shooting schedules for Dhoom:3 with Aamir Khan and then she will start working on the Knight And Day remake with Hrithik Roshan. Also, a film like Bombay Velvet needs a lot of time and attention. The deal wouldn’t have worked out if her time was limited,” says our source.

Apparently, Anurag also wanted to bring Katrina and the lead actor, Ranbir Kapoor, together in the film as he feels they have great chemistry on screen. The source adds, “In Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) and Raajneeti (2010), the two were very good. And people want to see a lot more of them together.”

Exclusive: I am not responsible for Katrina’s success, says Salman Khan

Mumbai: Not too long ago, Katrina Kaif had said that she doesn’t owe her success solely to Salman Khan. And the former beau of the beauty seems to be agreeing to her. Salman Khan said Katrina Kaif is what she is because of her hard work and that he doesn’t feel he has contributed any bit to Katrina’s success. However, the actress did admit that she credits Salman a lot for helping her evolve as a human being.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif spoke exclusively to Sudhir Chaudhry, Business Head and Editor, Zee News about their latest film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, slated to release on August 15.

On being asked about their pairing in the film, Katrina said that if the audiences like to see them play on screen lovers, then, “it’s a good thing for the film.” Katrina said that she has learnt a lot from Salman by observing him on the sets and calls him the “protector”.

The script of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ appealed to Salman Khan so much that he didn’t have to contemplate before signing the film.

Salman, who is often called Katrina’s mentor, was modest enough to admit that many filmmakers who cast her in their films are equally responsible for Katrina’s success.

Salman should himself decide when to marry: Katrina Kaif

Actress Katrina Kaif, who was once girlfriend of Salman Khan, says the actor (Salman) himself should decide about the age of his marriage.

"I think no one else except Salman should decide at what age he wants to get married," Katrina said at a promotional event of Ek Tha Tiger, when she was asked about 46-year-old Salman's marriage.

In the promos of their upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger, Katrina is shown telling 'Dabangg' Khan that it is high time he gets married.

Even Aamir Khan had yesterday said he has been telling Salman to get married soon but he does not listen to anybody.

To this Salman said, "Aamir is after me for this. I don't understand why everyone is after my marriage. Is there any benefit in me getting married?"

When film's director Kabir Khan was asked if this was deliberate attempt to have the dialogue in Ek Tha Tiger, he said, "No, we have not done this deliberately."

"Since I have Katrina and Salman in the movie I couldn't resist but have this..," he said, on a lighter note.

Katrina sacrifices family time for `Ek Tha Tiger`

New Delhi: It seems Katrina Kaif doesn`t like to compromise when it comes to her professional life. The actress cut short her family vacation to be at the launch of the first song of her upcoming film `Ek Tha Tiger`.

The actress was shooting in London for her new film with Shah Rukh Khan, which is being directed by Yash Chopra. After the film`s schedule wrapped up, she decided to stay back to spend time with her family.

"The location was quite far from where she lives and since she didn`t want to disrupt the shooting schedule, she was living in the hotel the crew had put her up in. Only once the schedule had wrapped up, she decided to spend some time with family," said a source.

However, she cut it short and flew back to Mumbai to be with her "Ek Tha Tiger" team, including lead actor Salman Khan, for "Mashallah" song launch.

"It was quite sweet of Katrina to be so accommodating. Mashallah is picturised on Katrina and Salman and also created a lot of wave," said source added.

The film releases Aug 15.

Katrina Kaif learns belly dancing

Actress Katrina Kaif left no stone unturned, as she took lessons on belly-dancing for a song from her upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger.

Katrina learnt a new dance form of belly dancing for the song Masha Allah in Kabir Khan’s forthcoming film Ek Tha Tiger, in which, she will be seen opposite ex-beau Salman Khan.

After hit item numbers like Sheila Ki Jawani and Chikni Chameli, Katrina is back with a sensuous number in Ek Tha Tiger.

According to sources, the song -- Masha Allah is the integral part of the film, in which, Salman praises Katrina as he feels that she is extremely beautiful.

When the song was discussed, Katrina was shooting on the borders of Turkey and Iraq and that is when she decided to learn the belly dance. She also gave inputs about the way she was to be presented in the number.

The film is set to release on August 15.

BOllywood Actor Katrina Kaif is playing a dance teacher in her upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger opposite Salman Khan.


Katrina's character Zoya is a ballet dancer, who not only takes lessons in the dance form but also teaches it to her fellow students. The film's crew has shot some of the sequences in London's Trinity University that is known for its contribution in arts and music.

Even Katrina's all new, glamorous look in the film is getting rave reviews after the new trailer hit the screens. What one does not know is the fact that Katrina will go de-glam in several scenes.

Director Kabir Khan, who had earlier insisted on a no make-up-look for Katrina in the film New York, has gone even further this time. He has insisted Katrina to wear clothes from her own wardrobe for the film.

Katrina apparently shrugged her slim shoulders and quipped that it was the director’s decision. …A perfectly legitimate response but one that evidently caused her ex-beau to flip his lid. ‘I’ll see your director!’ he is supposed to have retorted hotly, before allegedly breaking out into a torrent of foul language. But worse was apparently yet to come," said the cover story in the July issue of Cineblitz.

Katrina's friend rubbishes the story

"This is completely untrue. Salman and Katrina chose to work in the same film because there was no animosity between them. They got along famously during the Dublin and the Istanbul schedules. Salman cares for Katrina a lot. She is like family," a friend told Mumbai Mirror.

"People make up a lot of stories. Only because they couldn't keep up to their commitment of making an appearance at an awards function, rumours started flying," she added.

"How did the magazine know what happened inside Katrina's vanity when she had locked it? Kareena visiting her friend Salman doesn't necessarily have to be instigated by a phone call from his co-star," the friend told the tabloid.

"Kat has many projects lined up. She doesn't have time for silly rumours generated by the media. In fact she had to turn down Karan Johar's offer of Dostana 2 because she couldn't adjust her dates," the friend further added.

It’s time you get married: Katrina to Salman

It’s the million dollar question, one that we’ve speculated over several times — concerning Salman Khan’s marriage plans. However, not many have been able to question the superstar about it.

But now, Katrina Kaif has managed to do the unthinkable — grill Salman about his marriage, if  only on the silver screen. An insider from Yash Raj Films, who has seen the first trailer of Ek Tha Tiger (the film sees Salman and Katrina acting together) informs that there is a “very tongue-in-cheek” sequence about his marriage.

“It’s a sweet and heart-warming sequence. And the way it (the trailer) has been cut, audiences will love Katrina’s direct question to Salman. What you will see in the trailer is Kat’s character (Zoya) asking Bhai (Tiger) if he is married. Later, she goes on to suggest that “it’s time you get married”. We are sure it will generate a lot of interest among audiences,” says the insider.

Salman and Katrina, who have shared screen space in films like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005), Partner (2007) and Yuvvraj (2008), were last seen together in the special title song of Salman’s 2011 blockbuster, Bodyguard. “If you go into details, it’s Bhai and Katrina’s only romantic film featuring them as a lead pair,” says the insider.

And Salman has always maintained that Katrina and he share a good working equation. “Yes, she is very comfortable with me and my entire family. In fact, she is a part of the family. We have known her for the longest time now,” Salman told us earlier when Bodyguard released. As for Ek Tha Tiger, all we know so far is that Salman plays a RAW agent, while Katrina is a Trinity Music College student and choreographer. The trailer is likely to hit theatres on June 29. The film, directed by Kabir Khan (he has made New York in 2009 and Kabul Express in 2006) is scheduled to release on August 15.
